South Bend Clutch Heavy Duty TZ-Series Kevlar

Clutch Assembly for the1G and 2G FWD/AWD DSM:

SPECIAL PRICE!    $440.00 SHIPPED

*Kit includes the SS-Series 2200# Pressure Plate, TZ-Series Kevlar Clutch Disk, SBC Throwout Bearing and Clutch Alignment Tool!

Details:

This South Bend Clutch Stage 3 Clutch Kit is an excellent choice for DSM's making up to 500TQ while retaining a street clutch feel.  The SS-Series pressure plate has a clamping force of ~2200#.  Don't let this fool you into thinking that it cannot handle the power though.  Their special TZ-Series Sprung Full-Face Kevlar clutch disk is capable of handling substantially more power and abuse than an organic street disk without excessive wear or glazing issues.  The Kevlar material allows the clutch to be slipped like a street disk, but engage like a puck-clutch when you drop the hammer!  It is also very forgiving on flywheel friction surfaces and won't shred the flywheel surface.  This pressure plate is also very friendly on your crank's thrust bearing, as it will put substantially less pressure on the crank than other manufacturer's high-clamping-force pressure plates.  This is the smart step in preventing crankwalk on your 4G63 with a clutch that can safely handle up to 500TQ on a single disk setup.

If you are intending on street-driving this clutch as its main use, you are fine with any stock or aftermarket flywheel (ACT, Fidanza, etc.).  If you are intending on regularly racing the car with multiple passes of back-to-back launches and very high clutch surface temperatures, TMZ Performance recommends that you use an ACT Streetlite Chromoly Steel flywheel or the stock flywheel as it has a better capacity of dissipating heat than an aluminum flywheel with a steel replacement friction surface.  IF YOU USE AN ALUMINUM FLYWHEEL WITH THIS CLUTCH DISK -- LET THE CAR COOL DOWN BETWEEN RUNS!!!  This is strongly recommended because the aluminum flywheel and the replacement carbon steel friction surface have different expansion rates and heat dissipation rates.  You can warp your replacement flywheel friction surface from extended high-heat launches and abuse!  With that said, we recommend ACT StreetLite Chromoly Steel flywheels for high-power and heavy-abuse racers that are doing alot of launches back-to-back with little cool-down time!  If you are doing primarily street driving, and some races here and there, while allowing proper cool-down of the clutch between runs, the Fidanza Aluminum flywheel is a great choice.  These warnings are being disclosed to people that are making high horsepower/torque and are constantly racing!  This clutch is extremely capable, and is an excellent street/strip clutch that can handle alot of abuse and still keep on kicking for alot of miles!  Even if you overheat the clutch, its kevlar material won't glaze or burn off like an organic street disk would.  If you allow the clutch to cool down and bed the clutch back in, it will return to normal operating conditions and clutch modulation.

We offer media blasting of the pressure plate friction surface to increase bedding of the Kevlar friction material for shortened break-in time and better resistance to slippage after repeated launches at the track.  We also recommend media blasting of the flywheel friction surface to increase surface porosity for better break-in and recommend a 60-grit or 90-grit aluminum oxide blast media.  If you like, you can send your parts to us for media blasting at an additional cost.

The South Bend Clutch TZ-Series Sprung Full-Face Kevlar Disk was used in my race car for 3 years of extreme abuse, and withstood very high horsepower and torque levels of 500-630WHP and 460-590TQ (numbers are from dyno-tests on a 2WD WinDyn Super Flow Chassis Dynamometer).  It withstood a couple hundred track passes, over a hundred dyno pulls in this power level range, and over 30,000 street miles with regular launching, stop-and-go traffic, and fast shifting up to 8600-9000rpm.  Three years later when it was taken out for a clutch upgrade due to my increased power levels, it still had more than half of its friction surface left with no uneven wear to the clutch pressure plate or the clutch disk!

This clutch is rated by the manufacturer conservatively at 500TQ.

SPECIAL PRICE!    515.00 SHIPPED

*Kit includes the SS-Series 2200# Pressure Plate, OFE-Series Organic/Feramic Dual Friction Clutch Disk, SBC Throwout Bearing and Clutch Alignment Tool!

Details:

This South Bend Clutch Stage 4 Clutch Kit is an excellent choice for DSM's making up to 500-550TQ while retaining a street clutch feel.  The SS-Series pressure plate has a clamping force of ~2200#.  Don't let this fool you into thinking that it cannot handle the power though.  Their special OFE-Series Sprung Full-Face Organic/Feramic Dual Friction clutch disk is capable of handling substantially more power and abuse than a regular street disk without excessive wear or glazing issues.  The Organic material allows the clutch to be slipped like a street disk, but engage like a puck-clutch when you drop the hammer!  This pressure plate is also very friendly on your crank's thrust bearing, as it will put substantially less pressure on the crank than other manufacturer's high-clamping-force pressure plates.  This is the smart step in preventing crankwalk on your 4G63 with a clutch that can handle up to 550TQ on a single disk setup.

This clutch is rated by the manufacturer conservatively at 550TQ.

South Bend Clutch Heavy Duty TZ/B-Series

Kevlar/Ceramic Clutch Assembly for the 1G and

2G FWD/AWD DSM:

SPECIAL PRICE!    515.00 SHIPPED

*Kit includes the SS-Series 2200# Pressure Plate, TZ/B-Series Kevlar/Ceramic Dual Friction Clutch Disk, SBC Throwout Bearing and Clutch Alignment Tool!

Details:

This South Bend Clutch Custom Stage 4 Clutch Kit is an excellent choice for DSM's making up to 500-550TQ while retaining a street clutch feel.  The SS-Series pressure plate has a clamping force of ~2200#.  Don't let this fool you into thinking that it cannot handle the power though.  The custom TZ/B-Series Sprung Full-Face Kevlar/Ceramic Segmented Dual Friction clutch disk is capable of handling substantially more power and abuse than a regular organic street disk without excessive wear or glazing issues.  The Kevlar material allows the clutch to be slipped like a street disk, but engage like a puck-clutch when you drop the hammer!  The ceramic friction surface has a very high temperature capacity while being more thermally resistant than the Feramic friction material, and cannot weld itself to a steel friction surface if it is overheated.  The ceramic friction uses a segmented 8 friction pad design and is completely smooth without any sort of chatter or streetability issues.

South Bend Clutch SUPER HeavyDuty TZ-Series

Kevlar Clutch Assembly for the1G and 2G

FWD/AWD DSM:

SPECIAL PRICE!    $515.00 SHIPPED

*Kit includes the New Version SS-X-Series High-Capacity Pressure Plate, TZ-Series Kevlar Clutch Disk, SBC Throwout Bearing and Clutch Alignment Tool!

Details:

Just like the South Bend Clutch Stage 3 Clutch Kit, this setup has a higher capacity pressure plate than what is publicly offered by SBC.  It is a custom upgrade, and has a pressure plate clamping force of ~2700#, resulting in a torque capacity increase of 100TQ over the regular SS-Pressure Plate.  This bumps up the torque capacity rating to 600TQ with the TZ-Series Kevlar Disk  It is an excellent choice for DSM's making up to 550-600TQ while retaining a decent street clutch feel.

If you allow the clutch to cool down, it will return to normal operating conditions and clutch modulation.

The South Bend Clutch TZ-Series Sprung Hub Full-Face Kevlar Disk was used in my race car for 3 years of extreme abuse, and withstood very high horsepower and torque levels of 500-630WHP and 460-590TQ (numbers are from dyno-tests on a 2WD WinDyn Super Flow Chassis Dynamometer).

This clutch is rated by the manufacturer conservatively at 600TQ.
