Recommended Vendor Performance parts:

The key part from Beyond Redline Performance that I recommend for DSM, GVR4, and Evo 1-3 owners is their Custom Hardened Chromoly Cross-Shaft to use in the 4-spider center differential upgrade.  It is by far the strongest cross-shaft on the market for these vehicle applications and provides owners with complete streetability on high-horsepower AWD applications.  Instead of machining down the stock cross-shaft to accept 4 spider gears, this part started from scratch with better material, a beefier structure, surface hardening, and oil passage grooves on its posts to provide proper oiling to the spider gears to prevent surface galling.  The Beyond Redline Performance cross-shaft has been proven to hold over 1000HP and 950TQ at the crank on my race car for the last 6 years without signs of galling or damage.  It has been proven on the race track, the street, and the dyno to survive the harshest conditions without failure.

The key parts from Frontline Fabrication that I recommend for modified 1990-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser (DSM 1G/2G AWD) and the Evo 1-3 and Evo 4-9 platforms is the custom Plate Steel Custom Rear Differential Cover with Load Caps. It is easily the strongest rear diff cover on the market today and is what holds together the backends of some of the fastest DSM's running preventing rear differential housing failure.  This is what I run on my race car in place of the "like glass" OEM cast aluminum part that is fail prone when you start making real power and want to go fast.  Frontline Fabrication now also makes Front and Rear Bolt-In Driveshaft Loops for the 1G and 2G AWD DSM platform!  These parts are meeting NHRA specifications and are absolutely perfect fitment and finish!  They are beefy and will protect you from your driveshaft if it fails!  Frontline Fabrication now also makes a Custom 2G RACE Bolt-In Fuel Cell for the 2G DSM!  This product has excellent fitment, material finish and overall build quality and is built custom spec to your order for usage with gasoline, methanol, Alcohol or blends such as E85 or E98.

The key parts from Performance Autowerks (PWerks) that I recommend for stock to heavily modified Dodge Neon SRT's start with their Billet Steel Shift Selector (a recommended upgrade for all power levels), their Billet Steel 3rd/4th Shift Fork for heavy shifters (a great upgrade for modified SRT's that are getting a performance rebuild), and the PWerks Billet Steel Input Shaft (this is pretty much a mandatory upgrade for cars making over 400-600whp+ as the stock shaft likes to snap in half without surface treatments).

We currently offer cryotreatment and shot-peening services for gearsets.  These services work best when they are done on NEW parts after being deburred and detailed.

*Cryotreatment  is a surface treatment used to refine the microstructure of the item. The cryotreatment process has been proven to increase durability and wear resistance in many applications including transmission gearsets, clutch assemblies, engine rotating assemblies, brake rotors and brake pads, etc.  Once the cryotreatment process is completed the parts are carbonized and heat-treated to strengthen the material.  The cryotreatment services are being provided through The Cryogenic Edge and 300 Below.

*Shot-peening
is a surface treatment that peens the metal surface with special steel shot to provide an overlapping surface layer of compressive-stressed material.  This compressive-stressed surface material leaves a micro-dimpled surface on gears and shafts to provide increased surface area as well as better surface oiling retention.  Shot-peened gears generally act like they are 20%-25% larger in cross section, resulting in higher torque capacity of a gear.

I currently own one DSM -- I have sold off all the others along the way.

The "race" car is a 1999 Minden Pearl Silver Mitsubishi Exlipse GSX that is very heavily modified, and is one of the quickest/fastest 2nd Gen (1995-1999) STREET DSM's in the country. It is also one of the highest-horsepower and highest-torque 7-bolt 4G63's in the country with currently 835AWHP (power at all 4 wheels) SAE Uncorrected numbers on a DynoJet AWD dyno at 47psi on a dying turbocharger with the current engine/turbo setup. The pump gas tune made 640AWHP at 30psi on 93-Octane.  Dyno numbers are from June 2011.

As of 2012 Season, the car weighs in around 3280# with driver and has done best ET's of 9.49 @ 148mph on only 35psi of boost with very gentle 60-foots in the 1.5-second range testing the current setup for suspension dial-in and 2-step dial-in as I am trying out a very tall 1st gear assembly (2.571 Ratio).

The current engine/turbocharger setup has been run from 2009- EARLY 2012 seasons with consistent 10.0's @ 144-148mph on 30psi, with a best 1/8mi MPH of 123mph at 33psi.  The setup has been changed for 2012 season to try out different fuel and injectors.  The car is now on Race Components Inc (AFI) 2200cc high-impedence primary fuel injectors and 1000cc high-impedence secondary fuel injectors and running on E85 or E85/C16 mix.  Goals are 125-127mph 1/8mi and 160-165mph 1/4mi speeds with an elapsed time goal of 8.99 seconds.

In 2007, the Eclipse went back-to-back 9.96-9.97's with a top MPH of 148.88mph on only 641AWHP/567TQ on 35psi with an Eagle rod/Ross piston/FFWD Butchered stroker 7-bolt crank engine setup with a Garrett GT4088R in a 0.95 A/R T4 divided flange housing.  The same setup ended up producing an amazing 766AWHP/713TQ on 42psi in July 2008.  Unfortunately, the turbo died before I could get the car back to the track for some faster runs. Its best 1/8mi MPH was 117mph, and a best 1/4mi MPH of 148.88mph.
